Breast reduction

What does it consist of?

Breast reduction is a surgical procedure aimed at reducing the volume and reshaping the breasts, achieving harmonious proportions and alleviating physical and psychological problems associated with excessively large breasts (gigantomastia or breast hypertrophy). The procedure involves removing excess breast tissue, fat, and skin, thus lifting, shaping, and repositioning the breasts for a pleasing and natural aesthetic result.

Preoperative visit

During the preoperative visit, Dr. Manola carefully analyzes the patient’s anatomical structure, assesses breast volume, shape, and symmetry, and discusses personal goals and expectations. The patient’s general health, medical history, and any diagnostic tests required before surgery are also discussed. The visit allows for a personalized surgical approach, detailing the procedures, expected results, and potential complications.

Breast reduction surgery

Breast reduction surgery is generally performed under general anesthesia and takes approximately 2-3 hours on average. During the procedure, the surgeon makes incisions selected according to
the degree of reduction and reshaping desired (inverted-T or vertical technique), removing excess glandular tissue, fat, and skin. Subsequently, the breast is
sculpted and lifted, with particular attention to the repositioning of the nipple-areola complex, to ensure a harmonious and natural result.

Postoperative course

During the post-operative period, it is normal to feel some mild discomfort or tightness in the treated area, which is easily managed with painkillers prescribed by the surgeon. It is necessary to wear
a specific compression bra for approximately four weeks to ensure proper healing and tissue support. Daily activities can usually be resumed within seven to ten days, avoiding significant exertion or strenuous sports for at least a month. Periodic follow-up visits will be scheduled to monitor the healing process and achieve optimal aesthetic results.
