Mastopexy

BREAST LIFT – MASTOPEXY

A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a plastic surgery procedure that lifts the breasts to firm them and give them a more beautiful and youthful appearance. There are two ways to perform this procedure: superficial (skin only) or deep (skin and glandular). In both cases, a breast lift is performed to address varying degrees of ptosis, or the sagging of the breast, a natural process that affects all breasts. The reasons for this can be varied: pregnancy, weight loss, poor skin elasticity, the percentage of glands, genetic predisposition, or simply the passage of time. A drooping breast always has an unappealing appearance, especially in young patients, and could also cause deeper insecurities. Depending on the characteristics of the breast, a lift may be necessary as a stand-alone procedure or in combination with breast augmentation.

BREAST LIFT (as a single procedure)

To perform a breast lift as a single procedure, only a few glands must be present within the breast. When there is slight sagging of the breast,
a superficial lift (skin only) is performed using a periareolar and possibly vertical scar. When the presence of glands is fewer or unevenly distributed,
a deep lift (skin and glandular) is performed, anchoring the gland as if to form an atoprosthesis, giving the breast a firmer appearance using the patient’s own
glandular tissue. In this case, too, the scars will be periareolar and vertical.

It is important to emphasize that a mastopexy lifts and shapes the breast while maintaining its original size. If the patient desires larger breasts, she should consider an implant; conversely, if she desires smaller breasts, a reduction is performed.

The preoperative examination will help Dr. Manola determine whether the anatomical conditions exist for a mastopexy as a single procedure, answer the patient’s questions, and explain the real benefits of the procedure. Dr. Manola will also conduct a thorough medical history and prescribe any preoperative tests.

A breast lift, or mastopexy, is usually performed under local anesthesia with deep sedation. Its goal is to lift the breasts and position the areola in its proper position. The results of a mastopexy are long-lasting, consistent with the natural aging of the skin or the occurrence of events and situations that can lead to renewed sagging, such as sudden weight gain or loss, pregnancy, etc., which could alter the shape of the breast. At the end of the procedure, compression bandages are applied and must be worn for the following days.

Post-operative care: In the days following a breast lift (mastopexy), in addition to rest, it is recommended to wear a compression bandage for a week. A series of dressings and check-ups are planned so that the surgeon, Dr. Manola, can ensure everything has gone smoothly. The breast can be lifted up to 8 cm.

BREAST LIFT (as a complementary procedure)

In cases where the breasts are significantly sagging, for example after pregnancy, it is necessary to restore the breast volume with the insertion of an implant (breast augmentation).
The gland and skin are then smoothed out with a facelift procedure, which will allow the patient to choose the desired size while maintaining overall body harmony.
